In the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) club we train our power of rhetorical analysis and develop creative thinking skills through debating the subjects and topics found in the WSC materials. This year’s theme is A World Renewed, subjects include science and technology, social studies, arts and music. For example we discussed how we can ‘edit our planet’ today, did research and made notes on affirmative and negative motions on the thesis we developed. One of the challenges is trying to figure out what the arguments we will face may be. Other than debating, there is an essay writing component, an individual quiz, and a team quick fire quiz. In teams of three, we attend a yearly local competition in KS and hopefully qualify for an international round. We have fun!
